Oh What a Night

Ripping guitar licks, stompin bass and rhythmic drums. All this at the 2011 Winter Blues Session which were held in the very unique Rebecca’s room at Archers Manor.
As the crowd filed-in in anticipation of a big night the first impression of the up coming event was the room they had just entered. Coming in from under the stage I could see the inquisitive impressions on there faces asking “where the bloody stage” only to look behind them to see it perched above the entrance. Next question, where to set up camp, upstairs or down was another option and check out all the stuff in the room. Let’s get a drink and settle back, take it all in before the show starts- Wow!!

Proceedings were open with the smooth licks and vocals of Ray Beadle with the impeccable backing duo of Pete Cornelius and Henry Nichols. These guys just sound great together. Play a cool style of blues which got the crowd in the mood straight up. The purpose build dance floor, thanks to Daz, got a little work out, with most of the punters opting to sit back and enjoy the groove.

Next up were the The Infernos. Once over the technical problems, snapped double bass strings, they struck up with immediate results. The dance floor was filled to overflowing with 50’s style rock & roll dancing. Great to see. Their infectious brand of rockabilly had the folk rock’n in the isles.

Taking it home was that party group from Hobart, Full Tilt Boogie”. As the name implies, they cranked it up. Dualing guitars, solid rhythm section and Slim’s raspy vocals were a perfect finally to the night, oh now early morning.

Thanks to Alan and Jan for the use of the unique Rebbecca’s room which was a hit, the committee members and others who help out and finally to all the members and friends of the LBC who turned up to make it a great night. Also a special thanks to Josh, Jackie and Kay for helping out in the cold Brisbane St Mall the Saturday prior.
